Hunter Simple Question / Simple Answers

World's simplest, most stupid question: how do I change my pet's posture? It is stuck on passive right now and I can't find the key to change it! My pet's action bar only has one posture option (in the zero slot). I just don't know what the key is to change to the other postures.

 

Apologies, but I've been off WoW for several years and am just coming back. I could not find this very simple answer anywhere on Google :(

There is no keybind specifically dedicated to changing your pet's stance. Open your spellbook to the pet tab, and click on defensive/assist stance. You can drag these to your bars if you'd like a visual indicator of which stance your pet is in.

 

From that point, you have quite a lot of options for a more permanent solution to managing your pet's stances. My preference is to use a pair of macros, one to recall your pet (from combat, or from a /petstay) and one to petattack and put him back in his proper stance, as follows:

/petattack [@mouseover,harm,nodead]
/petdefensive

Alternatively, use /petassist if you prefer that stance, and/or delete the [conditionals] if you don't want to be able to change your pet's target with a mouseover.

/petpassive

Does the new nerf to AiS and KS bring BM closer to MM in terms of DPS?

Due to my horrible luck, and the relatively scarce supply of higher tier items, my hunter has accidentally stacked up quite a bit of mastery compared to multistrike (2nd highest stats) and crit (3rd or 4th highest, but around 200 rating lower than mastery)

 

Will BM be more viable for me as long as my stats are the way they are? I was thinking of going BM until my crit catches up, but until then I'm unsure of whether it will be a loss or an increase in DPS to spec BM.

This is best answered with sims. If you take a look at the simulation breakdowns on http://www.simulationcraft.org, you'll find that MM is still much higher than BM in single target. Remember that BM also got a nerf via the KS nerf. You should be fine to stick with MM.

My question is on a similar vein to Westrumhunter's. At what point during Chimera Shot's cooldown (1 sec, 1.5 sec, 2 sec) should I stop casting Aimed Shot/Steady Shot? I'm 90% sure bad timing on my part is gimping my numbers.

I've been using this macro for quite a long time, and I've never had any problem, until WoD:

When it's used like a pre pull, it works just fine on focus (Main tank), and when I'm already in combat, like a huge wave of mobs spawns and i have to MD they to the tank, I use the macro, Md goes on cooldown and the tank don't get MDed at all, there is a work around like i can mouse over the tank and use the macro, it works, but like everyone knows some fights gets a little messy and we don't even have that much time to mouseover someone.

 

Is it just me with this problem??

I've been using this macro for quite a long time, and I've never had any problem, until WoD:

I'll be honest, we only have two tanks in our raid, so I just update a macro with the tank's name that I want mds to go to. If I am soloing with a pet, I just use a macro with his name on it. Assign the macro to a button on my mouse and it essentially becomes a non-issue and part of my normal button combinations (instead of hovering and clicking).

The current action lists do not cancel aimed shot in any scenario or force a wait for CS to come off cooldown. So, the damage you see in sims of your MM spec are not based on this action. Here are the qualifiers for Aimed Shot decisions currently in the action list (outside of CA):

So, there are reactions to thrill of the hunt and the existence and usage of focusing shot. However, nothing about CS comes into play. If Aimed Shot is up and CS is not, and Aimed is supposed to happen then use it. If you find better actions that DO react to CS cooldowns and they increase your sim dps, let us know! I'd be very interested in playing with a new profile.

One addition: "/cancelaura Misdirection" was broken some time ago so that the aura cannot be cancelled. You may be seeing that blocking completion of the macro during combat.

 

The current action lists do not cancel aimed shot in any scenario or force a wait for CS to come off cooldown. So, the damage you see in sims of your MM spec are not based on this action. Here are the qualifiers for Aimed Shot decisions currently in the action list (outside of CA):

 

During beta, I tried simulating several variations, and they were DPS loss (e.g., adding 1/4 second delay with "actions+=/wait,sec=cooldown.chimaera_shot.remains,if=cooldown.chimaera_shot.remains<0.25" for chimaera is a loss). It was surprising how quickly tiny bits of wait added up to missing shots over the course of a fight (100dps in the above case). I look forward to exceptions to the dps ABC of "Always Be Casting"

This will cast MD on mouseover > focus and if both fails will keep the blue mouse active so you can choose another target.

 

Remove [] at the end if you don't want this option.

Might sound stupid:

 

In the WOD Survival 6.0 thread there is a lot of conflicting info regarding Lone Wolf. All the sims, including those posted, as well as your talent prio says Lone wolf is the lowest choice for the t7 talent, yet there is wording like "in the unlikely event you don't pick Lone Wolf", etc.

 

So which is it? Lone Wolf or SF/FS?

What is the currently accepted way of handling LnL procs what with the increased duration of ES?

 

Do we weave arcane/focus shot as befits like we have done before, or do we simply spam ES untill no proc charges remain?

Do not delay ES. The damage has rolled into the next charge of ES for a very long time (multiple expansions now). There is no reason to delay or weave.

  • The Haste stat is now 11.1% more effective. For example, characters at level 100 now receive a 1% increase per 90 Haste (up from 1% per 100 Haste).

This is assuming that the increases are 11.1% haste from rating and 12.5% mastery from rating (BM). Please check the simcraft settings posted above and let me know if you find any issues. Since this involved hand coding items and uses to manually add the increases, something might be off. This uses a rough guess of Highmaul BiS, including changes to BM gear (enchants are mastery).

Hi guys, I had a bit problem last few days, I just started playing hunter and I wanna know, if there are any possibilities about QUICK CASTING TRAPS? What exactly I have on mind? Well, when u casting trap and press button down, targeting green circle appears and then, u need to mouse click for cast trap on that location! What I want, is when I press button down trap will do exactly the same, but when I release button(key up) trap will launch.(without need of mouse click) Is there any macro or addon what can do this? Thank you for your help.

I don't think that's possible exactly how you ask, however you can quickly set a trap (one click only, at your current location) by de-activating the Trap Launcher ability.

I'm hearing from various sources that currently on live SV singletarget rotation is stronger if you leave out our level 90 talents all together. Specifically that using Barrage is a net loss for singletarget dps.

 

However, when I remove Barrage from my sim profile it drops around 400 dps. Are people just flat out wrong about not using Barrage being stronger or am I missing something?

I've actually only started looking at sims the other day so might be wrong in my interpretation, but Effin's sim here shows Barrage is a loss in DPS.

Sim says TotH is better in BRF gear but in this thread http://forums.elitistjerks.com/topic/132926-wod-survival-60/page-8(can't remember exactly where) someone said that most Hunters were choosing TotH because it's effects were much more easier to manage as opposed to Steady Focus which requires much more concentration on your focus usage.

 

Question from myself: considering spamming ES with LnL procs and you are using 4pc set bonus, is it still worth spamming ES to use the procs on LnL rather than wait until the duration of the ES DoT is over to reapply ES for the set bonus?

Always spam ES. The set bonus extends the duration of the Heavy Shot buff by 3 seconds for each ES. Thus the typical uptime for a single-target fight is ~97% with no change to priority.

(Survival) So... according to those sims, LW wins out over FS when you have the 4pc. How about when you only have the 2pc?
