Are you seriously so immature that you need to call someone disgustingly fat on the internet? Get a grip. I agree this whole RealID thing is bullshit, but you can speak your mind without making a personal attack on someone's appearance. We are above crap like this here.
If you haven't seen this interview with Kotick yet, you should.
YouTube - Social Gaming with Bob Kotick
thanks, just watched it. Actually I didn't find anything he said disgusting (although he appears disgustingly fat). It made business sense and he's clearly intelligent, not surprised that the CEO of a multi multi million dollar business thinks in business terms.
But he did give the impression of not personally being a gamer, not *loving* gaming for anything but the money the game produces. My guess is he is not a customer of his own company, and thus must understand his customers only through reports from underlings and consultants. In any industry this can lead to a misstep like today's.
The pertinent section (around 4:00-4:30) is where he discusses "social gaming" as one of the 3 big trends. Clearly today's announcement fits with Kotick's articulation in that video of where he sees gaming going. The problem is, as an apparent non-gamer, he doesn't understand that online gamers overwhelmingly prefer to socialize and achieve recognition within the gaming community within their "safe" online personas, not their RL personas.
Hopefully the feedback today and in the coming days will remind him of what he says at around 5:30 is very important: "don't offend the customer."
I'd say this is not an evil decision, just a very dumb one.
