Start your sentences with a capital letter, and always capitalize the first person pronoun "I," no matter where in a sentence you use it. Don't use smileys instead of proper punctuation. End your sentences with a single period or question mark. Don't use cutesy colloquialisms like "iiiiiinteresting," or chat-speak abbreviations like "nbd."
so, at it's best the totem takes a targeted damage spike, and makes it a relatively small aoe ("small" relative to the number of players in range of the totem). iiiiiinteresting. i am trying to think of how to use it best in the current content. it seems like it might be a waste in the situations where pw:b, divine guardian and aura mastery really shine - heavy aoe.
to show a poor use of the totem, i'll use the example here of heroic ods' magmatron's incineration security measure. everyone is stacked for the most part, so being within 10y of the totem is nbd, but since all the damage is already distributed amongst all the raid members for the most part, the totem is really only worth 10% damage reduction in this scenario - weaker than any of the aforementioned raid damage reduction cooldowns.
for to exemplify better use of the totem, i'll use the example of heroic ods' electron's chain lightning. everyone is stacked regardless of the chaining effect, so you always have to eat 3 chains of ~30k each (~90k damage). with the totem down, the damage is reduced to 81k and then split equally percentage-wise between those in range of the totem. assuming everyone has around the same health, since it makes the math a little easier, you have, instead of 3 people taking 30k damage, 24 people taking ~3.3k (i don't know how much the lightning hits for in 10m, actually, but you get the idea). but a 30k damage spike with such large health pools and no extraneous damage going out isn't really a huge deal, plus the cooldown on electrical discharge is pretty low, so the totem won't be up enough to make that much of a difference in the way the mechanic affects the raid as a whole
however, the best case scenario is when you have the difficult and unfortunate circumstance of electro and magma up at the same time, and you get an incineration security measure, during which time everyone is already taking lots of damage, and a 30k spike from electrical discharge is really dangerous. so not only is the incineration security measure damage reduced by 10%, the chain lightning is redistributed to become just another tick of ~3.3k raid damge. in this scenario, you and the other healers can keep focusing on the heavy aoe healing instead of feeling the urge to surge/flash/rg those who are in immediate danger of death . technically, due to the percentage dealy, the stacked tank or anyone with a lot of stam and high health is going to take more raw damage than those with lower health pools, but it doesn't seem like it will feel significant.
this will be fun to game, i think.
