    • Forum Rules (Updated 3/22/14)   07/14/10

Welcome to the Elitist Jerks forums, a WoW discussion forum targeted towards topics regarding high-end raiding and analysis of game mechanics. We ask you to take a few minutes to read the following before making use of these forums.   First, a point of clarification. The name of these forums is not intended ironically; we have high standards for the discussion that occurs herein, and we're quite unapologetic about it. If you feel our rules are stupid or arbitrary, we don't really care. If you don't wish to follow them, you're welcome to return to the official Blizzard forums.   Following is a brief listing of our forum rules; note that it is by no means exhaustive, as in our experience people are quite innovative in finding new ways to be stupid. These are simply a set of guidelines to get you started in the right direction. If you follow them, you will generally do fine here; however, if you concoct some creative new form of stupidity, our moderators feel no need to restrain themselves in letting you know. All posters are to make an effort to communicate clearly. In particular, all posts should be made in a reasonable approximation of proper English. We realize that a significant number of you are not native speakers, and we do not expect perfection: merely effort. Please obey basic rules of capitalization and punctuation, avoid chatroom abbreviations ("lol", "imo", "u", and the like), and pay at least minimal attention to sentence and paragraph structure. This includes not starting a new paragraph for each sentence. All opinions should be stated as succinctly as possible. Do not make multiple consecutive posts; rather, multi-quote and include all your ideas in a single post. Do not quote huge blocks of text to add a short reply; instead, quote only what you need to to make your point. Do not break a single quoted reply into multiple blocks; doing so needlessly lengthens your post without aiding its readability. And don't provide unnecessary backstory: if it isn't relevant to the question you're asking or the point you're making, we don't need to know about it. All discussion should be both polite and civil. Trolling or flaming in any form is forbidden. Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean they are stupid or on drugs and their personal hygiene isn't really relevant to the discussion. Regardless of the merit (or lack thereof) of your argument, it should be made in a way that is neither insulting nor condescending. Whining in any form is forbidden. Blizzard is not incompetent or stupid and they are not intentionally screwing you over and neither is anyone else. If all you're going to do is complain, don't bother posting. Threads should be started if and only if there is some reasonable topic to discuss. If the issue you wish to discuss is covered in an existing thread, use it rather than creating a new one. If you are asking a simple question that you expect to have a simple answer, ask it in one of the "Simple Questions/Simple Answers" threads. But if you feel there is a topic of discussion not well-covered by existing threads, feel free to start a new thread to discuss it. Some sub-forums restrict new members from creating new topics unless they've made at least 10 approved posts, to prevent spamming or bad posts. If you really think it deserves a new thread before you have 10 posts, contact a moderator with your post content. Do not post unless you have something new and worthwhile to say. Do not bump, quote for truth, cross-post, or post only to say thanks. We don't want to hear your funny story about something that happened in your raid last night, your baseless speculation is unproductive, and your idea for a new ability really isn't that interesting. We don't care what gear you are hoping to get or just received. If you have an idea you'd like to share with the community, support it with analysis, testing, or both that indicates you've put some thought into it. (Note: Posting of a new untested spec falls under this rule, unless you have done the grunt work and have information to support your amazing new spec don't even bother posting it here.) Do not beg for hand-holding. These are forums for discussion and analysis, not for answering any question that you might happen to dream up. Search and read before posting--do not post a question unless you are fairly confident that the answer isn't widely known or easily attainable. In particular, we do not want to take a look at your armory or WWS to tell you what you're doing wrong and we're not interested in making your tough gear or spec decisions for you. We expect you to use the search function and also to read the first post as well as the last 5 pages of the thread you are posting in. Chances are your question has already been answered. Additionally, do not post asking for confirmation of a simulation result. If you think there is a problem with the Sim you are welcome to PM the author. All accounts must have a valid WoW profile. If you no longer play and have deleted all characters you used to have, you may select the "No WoW Account" option; otherwise, this information must be filled out for your main character. If you fail to observe this rule you'll be permanently banned from our forums. We do not permit anonymous posting. Do not sign your posts. People can see who you are from the profile printed to the left of each post, so signing your posts is redundant and simply takes up space. Similarly, you do not need to link your armory in your post, as if people wish to see it they can get it from your profile. Do not respond to terrible posts. Do not respond to a blatantly awful post (a post that is in clear violation of the rules) either in an attempt to moderate them or to answer a question they posed. Your post will just be warned/infracted and removed with the post you are replying to. If you feel that a post is in violation of these rules, please report it and the moderators will deal with it as we feel is appropriate. No Advertising. Do not make posts solely for the purpose of advertising your site/blog/twitch/etc. You may post such things if it's relevant and adds to discussion at hand. If you have information to share, share it here with a link back to your blog or whatever. Do not post "I have information, come to my site to get it". That will result in an immediate infraction and post removal. Also, we will remove any link to a site that violates a games TOS/EULA such as gold selling sites.

If you violate a forum rule, you will receive an infraction. Most infractions are worth one point, although we reserve the right to give you more at any time if we feel you deserve them. If you accumulate too many infraction points, you will receive an automatic (usually temporary) ban which revokes your posting privileges, as follows: 3 Points - 1 Day 5 Points - 3 Days 8 Points - 1 Week 10 Points - 1 Month 15 Points - Permanent

Familiarize yourself with The Banhammer, an archive of all infractions given by the moderators here; it will give you some examples of what not to do. Also feel free to take a gander over The Dung Heap, which will give you a good idea of what these forums would look like if we weren't such jerks.   Thank you for joining the discussion!
    • Site Maintenance (Updated 11-12-15)   10/01/15

Site has been updated to IPS as of 12 November Known Issues So Far: Old wowhead "item" tags are depricated. They may be re-added to fix some issues with older guides, but for most part it's better to just use the modern wowhead.js which auto parses actual wowhead links automatically into tooltips/names. Just post wowhead links in guides and the js will do the rest. You don't need a special BB code for items. Old article links will be broken do to IPS 4 changing url path to remove some pointless "/_/" directory. The articles are still there and can be found in guides menu. You just may not be able to click links from any threads linking to them without editing out the "/_/" part of url. I'll fix most of this little by little when more important stuff is taken care of. External links/google search results may run into same problem. That will just rely on waiting for google to reindex new paths. After you login, you may be thrown to an error page saying page cannot be found if you logged in from the forum index. Harmless though. Just click "forums" and you'll get forum index since redirect after login is busted. The benefactors bar seems to hang/timeout sometimes.

  1. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

It's been over 5 years since I started FemaleDwarf.com, and it's been a great experience for me. I've learned a lot from my work on the site, and I've greatly enjoyed being able to contribute to and participate in our wonderful hunter community. It's with a heavy heart that I announce I don't plan to update the site for the Warlords of Draenor expansion. I've greatly enjoyed my experience in WoW over these almost 10 years, but I'm not sure if I'll continue playing in the upcoming expansion, and I just can't make the time investment required to keep this site up to date with it.   When I started the site, hunter options for optimization and theorycrafting were a lot more limited. Simulationcraft is now a much more mature and easier to use tool. Esoth is now working on his own web based theorycraft tool at http://www.wowhuntertools.com/hunter/. Ask Mr Robot is a popular alternative option. I hope the hunter community will continue to be well served by these and any new tools that may come along in the future.   I want to thank all the people who've helped make the site a success over the years: the authors of the original hunter spreadsheets that the site was originally based on, the hunter bloggers that helped get out the word about the site, the many hunter theorycrafters whose work has helped me keep the site up to date and accurate, the devs who've made a real effort in the last few years to engage the theorycrafting community and the player base at large, the volunteer translators that have helped make the site more useful to WoW players in many countries. I also must thank the many wonderful users of the site, some of whom have sent donations over the years, or have shared their stories with me of their experiences with the site, helped make suggestions for improvement or have offered to help in whatever way they could. The hunter community is full of great people that made me proud that I could do my bit to help.   I also wanted to note that I won't be maintaining the hunter FAQ on this site going forth in the expansion either. I'm hoping someone will pick up the torch.
  2. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

I've updated the site to support the item upgrades in 5.4.8.
  3. Hunter Simple Question / Simple Answers

Delirium, the mastery % shown on the site includes the base mastery that every character starts with, which is 8 mastery (which then gets modified by the same multiplier as the 600 to 1 conversion you get from mastery rating).
  4. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

Pichuca, I just added an option to disable set bonuses under the settings section.
  5. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

Just an FYI, I updated the site to reflect the latest hunter buff- Aspect of the Hawk is now giving 35% RAP.
  6. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

I've added support for Ask Mr. Robot import on my site. I haven't tested it fully yet (just ran some basic tests with my gear) so if anyone notices any issues, please let me know. One thing I did notice is they don't display engineering tinkers on their site, which means if you are an engineer and you import from their site to mine, you will have to manually select a tinker.   I'm going to look into turning the export option back on too now that I have new data from them on the format they accept links in, but that'll have to wait until I have a bit more free time.
  7. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

I've made 2 recent updates that will likely affect people's dps results. For MM users, I've modified the code for autoshot suppression when casting aimed shot to properly base it off the cast time of the aimed shot- it was mistakenly being affected by the GCD.   For all users of Dire Beast and Murder of Crows, previously those abilities were being cast even if there were only a few seconds left in the fight. I modified them to not cast in the last 7 seconds of the fight, and if they do not run their full duration they now will only get damage credit for partial duration (previously they were getting credit for the whole thing which was throwing off results). I also modified the code which determines whether to cast BA or explosive trap to not cast in the last 7 seconds of the fight (previously it was 5)- they were already only getting credit based on uptime.
  8. [MoP] Beastmastery 5.4

Just a note on the MM defaults- the reason I haven't really changed them is that they're very dependent on gear, so I'm not sure I really know what I could set them to that wouldn't be wrong for some people. I also feel like if you're going to play MM, you do have to give more thought to what the ideal aimed shot usage is with your gear- so if people don't tweak the defaults for themselves they will probably not play the spec properly either. It's still early in MM's revival though, so if it turns out a lot of folks end up using a specific config I'll take a look at what seem like reasonable defaults and change them.
  9. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

I've updated the site to reflect the hotfixes that are going in tomorrow for Explosive Shot and Chimera Shot. In BIS gear the changes are simming at about 8k dps increase for SV and 12k for MM.
  10. [MoP] Beastmastery 5.4

The way set bonus dps is calculated is just that it calculates the dps with the bonus, then turns off the bonus and calculates again. So the actual dps number it gives you for the bonus is not really estimated. The 4pc bonus for BM is not handled ideally, as it averages the damage bonus from bestial wrath/TBW over the fight and doesn't keep a specific count of which attacks benefitted from it- the simulation just keeps track of the uptime and number of stacks of the buff from the 4pc and then averages the damage bonus from that over the fight. There is an option on my site to not allow rapid fire to overlap, but if you're trying to do detailed testing of rotations you're probably better off using simc. I would be surprised if delaying RF is worth it though- the value of cobra shot speed reduction from RF isn't really that huge, and the extra regen for you and the pet during a buff that increases your damage, plus the increased autoattacks during that time and not delaying the next RF seem like they would be a far better value.
  11. [MoP] Survival Hunter 5.4

Unless they've changed it recently (which seems unlikely) it should work like a standard DoT, which means it will take whatever is left on the next tick and apply that to the new one. So for example, if you refresh it when there's 1 second left, your new BA will have a 21 second duration, but if you apply it when there are 3 seconds left it will still only have a 21 second duration since only what's left of the last tick will be kept. This is how it worked before when you reset BA with readiness, and it's unlikely they would modify it to work differently just because of the trinket. One benefit of the shorter cooldown past the actual duration of BA is that on multi-target fights, you can do some limited multidotting with your BA.
  12. [MoP] Beastmastery 5.4

I haven't had a chance to look in detail, but if you are seeing good results with Powershot on my site you might want to compare in simc and see whether it's working out there as well. You can see in the shot breakdown what buffs are considered active when a shot is fired- there are codes in the note column to identify. Stat procs from trinkets and such are averaged though so they aren't affected by the placement of the shots (except for haste ones). It could well be that it's the cheaper focus and less GCDs that are resulting in higher dps, especially since that frees up more shots to benefit the new tier bonuses. With regards to Spirit Bond, I would suspect it to be highly situational. In the end on any fight where you are likely to take a large burst of damage and you might not be fully healthy going into it, the damage reduction is probably preferable, just because you can't heal someone who's already dead. Most passive healing is healing that would likely be covered by other sources regardless. But there's a much larger gap now so it's definitely a question worth evaluating from fight to fight.
  13. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

The helm works fine, it's just that the tooltip is coming from wowhead and there seems to be a bug with the tooltip wowhead is showing for the item. If you want to see the stats actually stored in my database for the item you can click the item list button. I was just too lazy to make my own tooltips so I use the wowhead ones.
  14. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

Arison can you PM me a link to the saved settings you're seeing this in? I can't easily reproduce it with the profiles I've been using so it'd be helpful to see the exact profile you're using and what settings you have configured. The way the priority logic works is that it will go through the list of shots in priority and cast the first one in the list that it's allowed to, following whatever configuration options are set. It will delay for wait shots if they will be off CD and have enough focus to cast within the specified time period, but otherwise it just follows that priority. There isn't special code that makes ToTH proc shots work differently from normal shots at the moment (although I have had some requests for that), their focus cost is just reduced, so when evaluating whether to fire the shot it looks at the current focus cost of the shot. There are some exceptions in place for handling of focus saving for certain shots, and there is an option to prevent arcane shot from firing unless you have over a certain threshold worth of focus (which I usually use as it prevents it from draining you when you need the focus for other abilites). Dieudeflèche with regards to the proc rate on the cloak, that's very odd- I can see that too in the tooltip (which comes from wowhead), but if I actually click the link to view the item on wowhead it does show 1.74.
  15. Hunter DPS Analyzer (MoP edition)

The tooltip you see comes from wowhead, not from the site. There is a base proc rate on the cloak, then there is a modifier to the proc rate which is spec specific. The base proc rate is 1.74 (I'm not sure where you saw 1.62) and then there is a multiplier, which for SV is 1.148. It is also modified by your haste so the proc rate you see in game is going to be higher. With regards to the fervor issue, I'll take a look when things quiet down a bit with work and see if something's wrong. The serpent sting regen is supported by the site, but it's not really displayed anywhere. The FPS displayed on abilities is generally based off of what the ability costs and generates directly (in the case of things like cobra shot) and does not generally include passive benefits which it might also cause.
