      Welcome to the Elitist Jerks forums, a WoW discussion forum targeted towards topics regarding high-end raiding and analysis of game mechanics. We ask you to take a few minutes to read the following before making use of these forums.   First, a point of clarification. The name of these forums is not intended ironically; we have high standards for the discussion that occurs herein, and we're quite unapologetic about it. If you feel our rules are stupid or arbitrary, we don't really care. If you don't wish to follow them, you're welcome to return to the official Blizzard forums.   Following is a brief listing of our forum rules; note that it is by no means exhaustive, as in our experience people are quite innovative in finding new ways to be stupid. These are simply a set of guidelines to get you started in the right direction. If you follow them, you will generally do fine here; however, if you concoct some creative new form of stupidity, our moderators feel no need to restrain themselves in letting you know. All posters are to make an effort to communicate clearly. In particular, all posts should be made in a reasonable approximation of proper English. We realize that a significant number of you are not native speakers, and we do not expect perfection: merely effort. Please obey basic rules of capitalization and punctuation, avoid chatroom abbreviations ("lol", "imo", "u", and the like), and pay at least minimal attention to sentence and paragraph structure. This includes not starting a new paragraph for each sentence. All opinions should be stated as succinctly as possible. Do not make multiple consecutive posts; rather, multi-quote and include all your ideas in a single post. Do not quote huge blocks of text to add a short reply; instead, quote only what you need to to make your point. Do not break a single quoted reply into multiple blocks; doing so needlessly lengthens your post without aiding its readability. And don't provide unnecessary backstory: if it isn't relevant to the question you're asking or the point you're making, we don't need to know about it. All discussion should be both polite and civil. Trolling or flaming in any form is forbidden. Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean they are stupid or on drugs and their personal hygiene isn't really relevant to the discussion. Regardless of the merit (or lack thereof) of your argument, it should be made in a way that is neither insulting nor condescending. Whining in any form is forbidden. Blizzard is not incompetent or stupid and they are not intentionally screwing you over and neither is anyone else. If all you're going to do is complain, don't bother posting. Threads should be started if and only if there is some reasonable topic to discuss. If the issue you wish to discuss is covered in an existing thread, use it rather than creating a new one. If you are asking a simple question that you expect to have a simple answer, ask it in one of the "Simple Questions/Simple Answers" threads. But if you feel there is a topic of discussion not well-covered by existing threads, feel free to start a new thread to discuss it. Some sub-forums restrict new members from creating new topics unless they've made at least 10 approved posts, to prevent spamming or bad posts. If you really think it deserves a new thread before you have 10 posts, contact a moderator with your post content. Do not post unless you have something new and worthwhile to say. Do not bump, quote for truth, cross-post, or post only to say thanks. We don't want to hear your funny story about something that happened in your raid last night, your baseless speculation is unproductive, and your idea for a new ability really isn't that interesting. We don't care what gear you are hoping to get or just received. If you have an idea you'd like to share with the community, support it with analysis, testing, or both that indicates you've put some thought into it. (Note: Posting of a new untested spec falls under this rule, unless you have done the grunt work and have information to support your amazing new spec don't even bother posting it here.) Do not beg for hand-holding. These are forums for discussion and analysis, not for answering any question that you might happen to dream up. Search and read before posting--do not post a question unless you are fairly confident that the answer isn't widely known or easily attainable. In particular, we do not want to take a look at your armory or WWS to tell you what you're doing wrong and we're not interested in making your tough gear or spec decisions for you. We expect you to use the search function and also to read the first post as well as the last 5 pages of the thread you are posting in. Chances are your question has already been answered. Additionally, do not post asking for confirmation of a simulation result. If you think there is a problem with the Sim you are welcome to PM the author. All accounts must have a valid WoW profile. If you no longer play and have deleted all characters you used to have, you may select the "No WoW Account" option; otherwise, this information must be filled out for your main character. If you fail to observe this rule you'll be permanently banned from our forums. We do not permit anonymous posting. Do not sign your posts. People can see who you are from the profile printed to the left of each post, so signing your posts is redundant and simply takes up space. Similarly, you do not need to link your armory in your post, as if people wish to see it they can get it from your profile. Do not respond to terrible posts. Do not respond to a blatantly awful post (a post that is in clear violation of the rules) either in an attempt to moderate them or to answer a question they posed. Your post will just be warned/infracted and removed with the post you are replying to. If you feel that a post is in violation of these rules, please report it and the moderators will deal with it as we feel is appropriate. No Advertising. Do not make posts solely for the purpose of advertising your site/blog/twitch/etc. You may post such things if it's relevant and adds to discussion at hand. If you have information to share, share it here with a link back to your blog or whatever. Do not post "I have information, come to my site to get it". That will result in an immediate infraction and post removal. Also, we will remove any link to a site that violates a games TOS/EULA such as gold selling sites.

      If you violate a forum rule, you will receive an infraction. Most infractions are worth one point, although we reserve the right to give you more at any time if we feel you deserve them. If you accumulate too many infraction points, you will receive an automatic (usually temporary) ban which revokes your posting privileges, as follows: 3 Points - 1 Day 5 Points - 3 Days 8 Points - 1 Week 10 Points - 1 Month 15 Points - Permanent

    • Site Maintenance (Updated 11-12-15)   10/01/15

      Site has been updated to IPS as of 12 November Known Issues So Far: Old wowhead "item" tags are depricated. They may be re-added to fix some issues with older guides, but for most part it's better to just use the modern wowhead.js which auto parses actual wowhead links automatically into tooltips/names. Just post wowhead links in guides and the js will do the rest. You don't need a special BB code for items. Old article links will be broken do to IPS 4 changing url path to remove some pointless "/_/" directory. The articles are still there and can be found in guides menu. You just may not be able to click links from any threads linking to them without editing out the "/_/" part of url. I'll fix most of this little by little when more important stuff is taken care of. External links/google search results may run into same problem. That will just rely on waiting for google to reindex new paths. After you login, you may be thrown to an error page saying page cannot be found if you logged in from the forum index. Harmless though. Just click "forums" and you'll get forum index since redirect after login is busted. The benefactors bar seems to hang/timeout sometimes.

  1. rank kills are much faster than the speed at which my guild kills bosses. the difference between ascendance jugg kills and my kills is 250 vs 340 seconds.   and what you are saying i dont agree with, at 572 ilvl combat pulls ahead. i have 576 ilvl in both specs and both perform and sim higher as sub with whatever fight duration you put in. havent checked above 360 seconds but thats hardly necessary.
  2.   somehow that is the opposite of what wol is showing since top combat logs are ahead of sub logs
  3. is anyone here geared enough in both combat+sub specs to test out actual dmg on single target? for example juggernaut. someone with 578 or even more. right now combat rogues have higher top ranks on juggernaut than subtlety and i myself cant make that happen with my gear, 574.   my sub both sims and performs higher than my combat. i have the same ilvl weapons in both specs. 574 norushen daggers in sub and a 574 softfoot in combat. all my other gear is the same. im using my sub reforge in combat but according to sims it should be a 5k dps difference and not a 30-40k one as im seeing right now on juggernaut
  4. the dpe factor and rupture during dance only applies if that extra 10 energy can actually lead to an additional ambush, otherwise the energy is "pointless"   or did you find 10/35 of a backstab to be bigger than the difference between rupture and unmitigated evis?   i guess this would also change with mastery levels? getting a 580 aoc makes mastery better than crit. not much but enough to MAYBE warrant a change from crit to mastery thus making this discussion bit more relevant in terms of actual output
  5. from your post i can assume you never done thok heroic, but forgive me if im wrong. theres a reason i rank 13 with only 350k dps and that is because thok, esp on heroic, requires some mad balls to have high uptime, and is many times not at all possible.   doing 380k is no hard task given a proper boss for it such as juggernaut. however doing 380k with my 370k sim on a boss like thok hc and on our first kill aswell? claiming i would do that "easily" is, im sorry, a bit naive :P   damage per energy is not always relevant. you cannot compare eviscerate to rupture and say "rupture is 25 energy and evis is 35 so rupture is always worth using". the reason eviscerate doesnt go up to the full tooltip is because of armor which is ignored during fw.    comparing dmg on fw evis with rupture, eviscerate will come out on top. dpe is something else and you cannot say that rupture being at 25e is always worth using. the 10 energy that you dont spend will instead be put into less than a third of a backstab. whether adding that to rupture dmg or not offsets it from outdmging an evis i dont know.   you also cannot compare them to each other like that in a vacuum. say i decide to use rupture on fw. the worst case scenario is refreshing it with 10s left on fw. even during those 10 seconds, rupture will only tick 5 times. after that, fw is gone and evis will no longer ignore armor. that is only half a ruptures worth of damage and it would be wiser to squeeze in more eviscerates during fw and then use cps on rupture when fw is no longer active   edit: ah i understand now what you meant by critchance on melee swings. if you go on a dummy and test yourself you will see why it rates melee swings with such high crit chance. make sure its a boss dummy   or if you feel lazy you can just click here http://i.imgur.com/CCupcNX.png
  6. been playing sub now for the past few resets. combat on a few bosses just because its so much easier on some fights. guild downed thok yesterday and i ranked 13 at 350k or so dps. anyway heres the log   http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-b5w245wbapbv0y79/sum/damageDone/?s=6449&e=6939#Alaxel   i blades->hemo out of stealth and dance right of the bat into ambush/evis spam. with tricks on the pull and some crits i managed to always be between 1,2-1,8 in the pull, all depending on crits. with the ridiculous critchance we have with all procs active its rather unlucky to not crit but meh i guess thats life   what i found intresting was that looking at the tooltip for rupture and evis, evis 5cp shows a higher dmg than 5p rupture. ive started to only evis into FW and never rupture on FW and ive noticed a dps increase.   hopefully next week i can try to talk to raid leader about doing normal tactic on juggernaut because the africa tactic is driving me nuts such anti wol
  7. i would think out of those two that hemo > ambush > ambush is better since a flat increase in 35% dmg on 1 ambush is better. a boss has 34% armor (34/134=0,75~) and (hemo+dot)/0,75 is not more dmg than ambush*1,35   another opener that i use with shadow focus is prep slice blades -> ambush -> rupture -> dance ambush spam. not sure if better but it definetly gives higher burst in the opener than the others
  8. yes exactly my point. having shadow dance equals shadowdance+FW so how it can be a gain in one and a loss in the other is what im coming at
  9. Hi guys. This is my first post on Elitist jerks, and I've got many things Id like answered. Actually maybe not as much answered as rather discussed since I see so much information on different forums that sometimes even disagree with one another completely.  :P   But yes, do we really have the opener set in stone yet?   Personally I'm still not even sure what to do, however my opener is really not like what you're describing and atleast from my experience ive gotten higher numbers this way.    Basically, the problems I have is understanding how shadowblades, shadow dance, and find weakness interacts with eachother. For example, everyone says that its better to dance with blades always. But how the hell does that make sense? Backstab is 35 energy and Ambush is 40 energy. Since blades give +1 combo point per builder, wouldnt it be slightly more beneficial to use blades outside of shadow dance?   Also the matter of having shadow blades active when find weakness is active or not. According to shadowcraft its a dps loss to use blades on find weakness but its a gain to use it in shadow dance? Can someone help me and explain how that would make sense. From what I can understand and would assume myself would be that the opposite is the best. My opener right now that has produced the highest numbers is:   Prep slice -> Shadow blades -> Ambush -> Hemo -> backstab for 10 sec until FW drops, Shadow dance -> ambushes -> Vanish (Prep immediately) -> Ambush -> Vanish again when FW drops -> now its been about 40-42 seconds so AoC Dance is up again -> Dance ambush spam.   This is basically 100% uptime on FW for the first 50-55 seconds.   The other would be to dance and blades immediately in the pull which might give a bit higher burst but its gonna drop down really fast right after blades and dance are running out. With my opener I managed 298k on juggernaut (normal) which was at the time 9k above my ShC simulation. After looking at Skada afterwards I noticed that my evis was top dmg with an average crit of 70%. Basically it meant that my dps was a bit skewed because I had lucky crits on evis, and evis should be 2nd or 3rd of my dmg with a haste build.   Also, I thought they had fixed the bug with glyph of vanish and subterfuge, is it still active as of 5.4? For sure? I remember testing it when it was stated to be fixed in the patch notes sometime between 5.2 and 5.3 and I didnt get it to work anymore.   Final note, im using shadow focus sometimes and honestly, I havent seen it to really be a loss in dps. The burst numbers are way higher with shadow focus that with subterfuge, and Backstab at 35e has higher dpe than 60e Ambush. Are those 3 seconds of master of subtlety+FW really worth it? Depending on ilvl AoC, you have to wait a few extra seconds for FW to run out before you pop dance when using subterfuge, because of the way cooldowns/FW line up during the first 50-60 seconds of a pull.    THat's it for me now, and yeah, I apologize if its a bit cluttered but I just had to get all things down before going to work!   ps: isnt head from immerseus better than head from garrosh? haste+crit > haste+mastery eh?
