Yes you can tame him on normal mode and someone actually did it on beta with a lot of help, but that wasn't the point of my post.

OP stated that all bosses had 14083 armor - and king dred has 10338.

No, he didn't:

All existing raid bosses in WotLK have exactly 13083 armor, on both heroic and normal difficulty.

Normal and heroic refers to 10-man and 25-man raids respectively.

Also, who even cares about the armor level of a 5-man boss? And thanks to the OP and Lactose, nice to have something like this documented.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the BB-Team.

I used Beast Lore on King Dred (that huge devilsaur in draktharon keep, heroic) and he had 10338 armor.

King Dred is level 75 to 82 in the normal instance and level 82 in the heroic instance.

The 13083 armor mentioned in original post is for level 83 targets only. I'm guessing the 10338 armor you saw is generic for a level 82 elite enemy.

I must have misunderstood Dayve when he said all raid bosses- I'm going to correct the first post. The real question is whether heroic bosses have the same armor as raid bosses, or whether they have the 5 man version armor.

From now on, I'm going to try to get actual data for each boss before updating the first post- we know that all 25 man Naxx has 13083 or thereabout, and I've asked Dayve for a list of bosses he got data on.

So if these values are correct and raidbosses have an armor value of 13083, this means that according to the old formula of "%Reduction = (Armor / ([467.5 * Enemy_Level] + Armor - 22167.5)) * 100", that all raidbosses have a basic melee mitigation of 44%, right?

Expose, acid spit, sunder 3925
Faerie fire, sting, cor 1260
Total reduction = 5185
13083 - total = 7898 armor

2 formulas from tankspot not sure if it is the 80 or 83 one I should use but I think it is the 80 one as the attacker(you) is 80:

                 lvl 80
expose etc 3925
faerie etc 1260
total        =	 5185
13083 - total = 7898

Armor% 34,1%

Grim toll procced 20,57

           A
M80 = ------------
      A + 15232.5

So 34.1% damage reduction with full debuffs.
Please check for correctness.

Can you link to where you got 15232.5?

To resurrect this thread.

While testing various hunter mechanics I had to see how armor values have changed.

For the level 83 'boss' dummy in Ironforge a value of 11900 armor seems to match (tested naked, untalented with a fixed damage ranged weapon, fine light crossbow), providing the armor formulas have not changed.

I did not remember to copy over my warrior so I am unable to test it with a true fixed damage ability.

EDIT:
So it seems likely it is in fact the announced 10% cut: 13083/1,1 = 11893

EDIT#2:
A second round of testing was unable to verify my previous number.

Word on the street is that many of the bosses in Ulduar have unprecedentedly high armor. I would prefer to avoid going by hearsay if at all possible, so I was wondering if anyone has done any testing on this for 3.1. Is the 13083 number still accurate for Ulduar?

Bosses don't have 13,083 armor anymore.

Instead, they have 10,643 armor. The implications are:

1. This is a straight-up buff for any group that does not have access to the Major and Minor Armor Debuff categories

2. Any group that does have those debuffs will see no change, as the armor reduction is the same given that the armor debuffs are now a percentage value rather than a flat amount.

This post in the Combat Ratings thread clearly shows Sanctum Sentries (Auriaya's adds) in Ulduar having 10,643 armor.

I'm not convinced that because all beasts (Maexxna, Auriaya's adds) have the same armor that all bosses everywhere have the same armor. That isn't to say that it isn't true necessarily - but I'm getting a lot of anecdotal data that would suggest some bosses (Mimiron tank) have very high armor, and some have lower.

Anecdotal evidence is just that. Until someone comes forth with some concrete evidence that the armor value for a given boss is different than 10,643, nothing is going to change in regards to how much armor a boss is assumed to have.

It shouldn't be too difficult to reverse-engineer any given mob's armor value, especially with a static damage attack such as Bloodthirst. Some of the posters here have done this extensively in their exploration of the Armor Penetration stat.

That being said, I believe it was assumed that bosses have a uniform armor value so that the DPS contribution of Armor Penetration would stay relatively predictable, up to and until you reduce armor to 0.

There was a fellow named Dayve who had an addon that would do it- as he did white damage, the addon would establish an upper and lower limit to the range and infer the armor value from that. He hasn't posted since Dec 08 though.

Is this still true, even in ICC? Can't find anything new about it.
